Namaskar

2008- An year we all are bidding good bye, an year that will leap into the past and leave behind good and bad memories.Recalling the year I have so many things to cherish for a lifetime and so many to forget. The one thing that I would definitely like to forget is the tragic Mumbai attack that has shaken up all of us, killed so many innocent people and destroyed so many homes. Leave aside citizenship, as a human being I sometimes wonder what is happening to the human race? Is this the modern world that we visualize?Well! The list of things I would cherish forever is the realization of my dream- VTS and the most memorable trek I made to Chandratal.....and Lots of upcoming Events.....................................

Delhi-Reckongpeo-Nako-Tabo-Kaza-Dhankar-Ki-Kibber-Chandratal-Baralacha-Tirthan

Day 1: We started our Journey at 22:00 hrs. from DELHI & drove non stop to NARKANDA, which was 2650 Mts. Of Altitude & reached at the perfect stopover of HPTDC (The HATU), don’t miss the vegetable cutlet at the hotel.

Day 2: We started at 10:30 hrs. from Narkanda. Our next stop was at Kalpa. The drive was smooth and we drove along sutlej which at this time of the year was massive.Don’t miss the stopover at SUTLEJ View. From Jeori there is a way to SAHARAN…..But we had already made our booking at KALPA.We crossed KARCHAM (from here SANGLA is 20 KM and CHITKUL is 52KM).We reached Reckongpeo,a lovely Monastry and Kalpa at 15:30 hrs, stayed at HPTDC.The Location was awesomeand we got a good glimpse of KINNER KAILASH,we got the good view of Kailash in the morning too.I think we were lucky enough.

Day 3: We started early the next morning & this drive we all didn’t want to miss, so we were all alert, as we were entering SPITI VALLEY. The roads were masterpiece, its been made by cutting the Mountains it was just superb……!! From here we started the real safari of Cold Desert of dry mountains and arid plains, it was huge,it was beautiful, it was just out of the world experience ….We were heading towards KAZA (3500 mts. Of Altitude), we did a stopover at TABO Monastery (a 1000 year Old Monastery),the oldest in the world. We Reached KAZA at 17:00 hrs hours and stayed at HPTDC.One can look for better option in kaza, though our stay was perfect ,but I think all praise to the place.

Day 4: We started from kaza at 11:00 hrs and visited DHANKAR Monastery, on the way we also did a small stopover at KI and KIBBER Monasteries. From Bathal CHANDRATAL just 13.5 KM, out of which 12.5 KM is Jeepable and 1 KM is Trek., believe me the trek was awesome and as the altitude rises in every turn we also started feeling the need for oxygen. We were carrying our stuff while trekking (Like Tents, Food etc.),but one can hire a porter or pony @250/- per pony. We reached CHANDRATAL at 16:30 and the sun was about to set, the Taal was at its bestThe view was simply NUMERO UNO!!!!! We pitched our tents and we were hungry too, but in the middle of everything don’t miss to cover yourself fully,as the Altitude was 4350 Mts. and night was tooooo chilly , it was -2 c in the night at this time of the year……

Day 5 : The next day we were all waiting for the sun to rise.We did a parikrama of the Taal and took dip into it,which was obviously freezing. We wanted to stay more but time was a constraint,we packed and left from chandrataal at 16:00 hrs.,we were already late….reached Solang Valley by around 22:00 hrs,the second phase of Cold desert started when we reached Bathalwhich was in Lahaul.i think both the valley has its own charm,Spiti Valley was dry,but Lahaul has some vegetation….But every mountain has some story to tell, just sit with it and you can relax in the LAP of it.We crossed Bada Shegri, which is one highest (18KM) Glacier in Himachal. At this time of the Year one will find lots oof Water falls at leat 100 of themthorough out the journey.Amazingly none of it has any name. You will have to cross lots of water fall on the road,we got stuckin one of them.just before Chotta Darra,it was same atleat 9years back ,when I first visited, but one tractor rescued us.It is highly recommended to take a bigger SUV on the trip if you are traveelling on your own….Our trip came to an end in Tirthan Valley,we stayed at Raju’s Cottage…..all good things will end so fast…….it was a dream,I was all alone in the lap of mountains ,I have something to cherish , something UNFORGETTABLE!!!

Will definitely visit again

Cheers!!
